Zenith Bank to partner with CU
One of the nation’s leading banks, the Zenith Bank Plc has
indicated interest to partner with Covenant University in
the area of ICT and recruitment of the University’s fresh
graduates.
The Managing Director of the Bank, Mr Jim
Ovia, who made this disclosure, recently, said the
Management of his bank has approved the construction of an
ICT Centre to be equipped with full Internet facilities at
the University.
Mr Ovia said the decision to build the
centre was in recognition and support of the University’s
laudable initiatives and aspirations toward the enhancement
of the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.
Consequently, on March 31, 2007, a 3-man
team from the Bank paid a courtesy visit to the University
to cement the partnership and also inspected the site for
the Centre.
The leader of team, Mr Uche Oga, a senior
manager of the bank, praised the University for the giant
stride it has made in the context of higher education in
Nigeria. He said Zenith Bank had observed the quality of CU
graduates and therefore decided to also partner with it in
the area of recruitment of best students of the University.
While receiving the team, the Registrar,
Yemi Nathaniel, thanked the Management of Zenith Bank for
the partnership initiative. He commended the bank for its
innovativeness and steady growth in the industry.
The Dean of College of Science and
Technology who stood in for Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize
Obayan, observed that ICT had flattened the world, making a
less advanced country like India to consult for a bigger
nation like the United States. He said Africa’s hope for
true liberty would also depend on its ICT development.
Other members of Zenith Bank team
included Mr. Lai Sosanya (Manager, Property) and Mr. Thomas
Owoseni (Manager, Relationship).
