CU holds Public Lecture on Chemical
Industry: An Index of the Technological Development of a
Nation.
As
manufacturing industries in the country continue to depend
heavily on imported basic chemicals while neglecting the
nation’s abundant raw materials, the Covenant University’s
19th Public Lecture will x-ray the challenges and prospects
of Nigerian chemical industry on the overall socio-economic
and technological development of the country.
The lecture, titled, " Chemical Industry: An Index of the
Technological Development of a Nation " will be delivered by
a renowned Chemist, Professor Michael Adediran Mesubi, on
Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the University Chapel by 3
pm.
Professor Mesubi is currently the Head, Department of
Chemistry, Covenant University. Before joining the faculty
of the University he formerly lectured at the University of
Ilorin, Ilorin, where he was at onetime Dean of Faculty of
Science and Chairman, Committee of Deans.
His main research interest is in the area of Coordination
Chemistry with emphasis on preparation, structural and
industrial application studies of coordination compounds or
metal complexes. Recently, he expanded his areas of research
interests to include mineral processing and development of
useful industrial products from locally available raw
materials.
Professor Mesubi is an active member of several learned and
professional societies; notable among them are Life Member
of Science Association of Nigeria (MSAN); Member of the
Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (MIPAN); Fellow of
Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN); Fellow of the Institute
of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON); Chartered
Scientist, Chartered Chemist and Fellow of Royal Society of
Chemistry – (Csci CChem FRSC).
