holds Public Lecture on the Accounting Profession, the
Church and the Nigerian State: Change Agents for National
Rebirth.
With the recent inauguration of a new government in the
country that saw the emergence of not only the first
university graduate as president but also academicians
occupying the two topmost positions in the land, the call
for a rebirth in all other facets of the polity reverberate
across the country.
As its contributions to development of a new Nigeria,
Covenant University’s fourteenth Public Lecture will
critically examine the current state of the nation, the
Herculean task of birthing a new nation and the roles the
Accounting profession, the Church and the Nigerian state
have played in bringing about the sordid state of affairs in
the country and what these three key institutions can do to
bring about the much awaited Nigerian renaissance.
The lecture, titled, " Accounting Profession, the Church
and the Nigerian State: Potent Change Agent for National Rebirth"
will be delivered by an international accounting scholar,
Professor Emmanuel Ndubuisi Emenyonu, on Thursday, June 14,
2007 at the University Chapel by 3 pm.
Professor Emenyonu is currently at Covenant University on
sabbatical leave as a visiting professor.
Professor Emenyonu has had extensive teaching experience in
Universities in Nigeria and abroad. He started his teaching
career at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus in 1988
and was a teaching fellow at the University of Glasgow
between 1990 and 1992. From January 1995 to September 1996,
he was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Howard
University in Washington, D.C., an Assistant Professor at
Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, September
1996 to September 2000. He was appointed an Associate
Professor in September of 2000 and a full Professor and
Chair (Head of the Accounting Department) by President and
Board of Trustees of the Southern Connecticut State
University.
He has published numerous articles in leading academic
journals in Europe, United States of America, Australia,
India, Middle East and Nigeria. He has won numerous academic
honors and awards.
The lecture will be chaired by Dr David Oyedepo, Chancellor
of Covenant University.
