NUC approves 31 Covenant University
postgraduate programmes
Covenant University has recorded another feat in the
validation of its academic programmes at all levels as the
National Universities Commission (NUC) approved 31
postgraduate programmes of the University and granted it
approval to open its doors for external postgraduate
students.
According to a letter sent to the Vice-Chancellor of the
University, Professor Aize Obayan, by the NUC, the apex
regulatory body for university education in Nigeria, the
approval was sequel to the successful resource evaluation
carried out by a panel of experts comprising eminent
professors sent by the NUC to the School of Postgraduate
Studies of the University. The human and material resources
available in the University were assessed by the panel in
order to determine the basis for the approval of the
Postgraduate Programmes.
The Programmes granted approval to run Master’s and Ph.D
Degrees include Accounting; Business Administration; Public
Administration; Marketing; Industrial Relations and Human
Resource Management; Banking and Finance; International
Relations; Economics; Political Science; Strategic Studies;
English and Literary Studies; French; Mass Communication;
Counselling; Psychology; Sociology; and Demography and
Social Statistics.
Other approved Programmes are Biology; Microbiology;
Biochemistry; Industrial Chemistry; Industrial Physics;
Electrical & Information Engineering; Civil Engineering;
Chemical Engineering; Petroleum Engineering; Mechanical
Engineering; Architecture; Building Technology and Estate
Management. Computer and Information Management Sciences
received approval for M.Phil and M.Sc Degrees only.
The approval received is a validation of the quality of the
programmes that the University has been running from the
early years in its attempt to enhance the staff development
base and build the academic capacity of its faculty, thereby
addressing the current dearth of quality academics in the
Country. It also gives impetus to the University’s quest to
become a leading World Class Research University.
