Sweet Reunion as Eagles
Return on Campus for Inaugural Alumni Meeting
It was a sweet reunion, full of pleasant memories and
testimonies as the Released Eagles (graduates of Covenant
University), currently on National Service on the platform
of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), flew back to
campus this weekend from their different stations across the
country and beyond for the inaugural meeting of the Alumni
Association.
The three-day event, which started on Friday, April 06, 2007
with the arrival, registration and welcome session for the
delegates by the principal officers of the University led by
Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan and Registrar, Yemi
Nathaniel and the Alumni Administrator, Dr Daniel Rotimi,
was aimed at renewing and reinforcing the unique virtues
impacted on the graduates as they forge a common front on
how to take the Alumni Association to the next levels after
its formal inauguration.
While welcoming the Eagles back on campus, the Chancellor,
Dr. David Oyedepo, who painted graphic analogy of an eagle
whom he said shed and grew wings once in a year, said the
summit would, among other things, renew and make the
delegates to soar higher than they ever imagined.
The Chancellor said the Alumni
Association, like every positive association, would increase
and advance those who associate with it, adding that like a
battery it would also charge and keep them moving in the
positive directions.

He advised the delegates to gun for
change and transformation anywhere they found themselves,
adding that the world was yearning for true leadership,
which could only be attained by one’s sustainable impact.
The Chancellor also advised them to quickly locate their
placement in destiny so as to make their journey in life
sweeter. He urged them to rely strongly on the direction of
the Holy Spirit in all they do in order not to take
opportunity as a substitute for destiny.
While stressing the need for righteousness in all they do,
he advised them to be bold enough to face the realities of
their destinies and not to play down on the importance of
good character or sell their birth right for a morsel of
meat.
Dr. Oyedepo also counseled them on the need to make right
choices in marriage. He advised them to ensure that their
spouses are spiritually committed, saying that spirituality
was the key to one’s destiny.
The Vice Chancellor who also welcomed the delegates back to
campus, said their homecoming was very symbolic as it
represented the roosting of the eagle for renewal.

She told them that the University was doing everything
possible beyond the NUC benchmarks to ensure that it attains
the world-class status in the nearest future.
The Vice Chancellor, while commending them for the quality
suggestions they made in the cause of their deliberations,
assured them that the University management would welcome
and accept whatever input they may wish to make.
The Registrar advised the Eagles to invest their time wisely
and to carry the good news of the event and the banner of
Covenant University wherever they go.
Some of the delegates gave heartwarming testimonies of God’s
favour in their lives since their graduation.
The event also featured a service at Faith Tabernacle on
Sunday, April 08, 2001 and a Cultural Night/Dinner hosted by
the Chancellor at the University Cafeteria 2 the same day.
At the end of the inaugural meeting, the Alumni Association
elected a seven-man executive to pilot its affairs. The
