Covenant University Holds Seventh
Matriculation Over 1, 700 newly admitted
students of Covenant University will participate in the
seventh Matriculation ceremony which holds on Friday,
November 28 at the University Chapel.
In a press release signed by the Registrar of the
University, Dr. Daniel Rotimi, this year’s matriculation
ceremony is unique as it coincides with the University’s
24th Public Lecture.
The lecture titled, “Reactor Design: The Development of A
Simplified Novel Optimization Technique” will be delivered
by a renowned Professor of Chemical Engineering and an
award-winning inventor, Professor James A. Omoleye who is
also the Dean, Student Affairs, Covenant University.
Professor Omoleye obtained his first and second degree in
Professional Chemical Engineering and Chemical Engineering
Management at Oklahoma State University and Washington
University in St Louis, Missouri, USA respectively within
four years between 1976 and 1980.
An astute academic and researcher, he started his
teaching career as an Assistant Lecturer at the Department
of Industrial Chemistry of the University of Port Harcourt
in1981 after serving his NYSC in the same Institution
between 1980 and 1981. He rose to the post of a senior
lecturer in the same Institution in 1991.
Before joining Covenant University in 2008, he had served
in many academic and administrative positions including, the
acting Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering and the
Coordinator of Chemical Engineering Programme of the
University of Ilorin. He is an Editorial member of some
scholarly Journals as well as a reviewer of some others. He
is a PhD thesis external examiner to the Department of
Chemical Engineering, University of Lagos and was a senate
member at the University of Ilorin for some years.
Professor Omoleye is a registered Engineer with COREN and
a member of Inventors Association of Nigeria.
The matriculation, which is expected to attract
dignitaries from all works of life, will also feature
student performances including playlet, poem, display by the
Revolutionary Squad and song ministration.
The event will be chaired by the Chancellor of the
University, Dr David Oyedepo who will formally accept the
students into the University. |
