CU Emerges the Best at Model United
Nations Society Conference 2007
Covenant University has emerged the best at the just
concluded Nigerian Model United Nations Society (NIGIMUNS)
conference in Abuja. The university delegation made of four
students representing four different countries as
ambassadors and two staff, emerged as the Best School
Delegation at the conference.
The conference had twenty nine (29) higher institutions
represented and over 250 delegates, including a foreign
delegate from Kenya. Among other universities represented
were University of Ibadan, University of Nigeria, Nsukka,
University of Port Harcourt, Redeemers University, Olabisi
Onabanjo University, Abia State University, University of
Uyo, and Federal University of Technology Minna and Yola,
etc.
Led by a University Faculty and Fulbright SUSI scholar, Mr.
Sheriff Folarin, and Mr. Olusegun Johnson of the Student
Affairs Department, the university was adjudged the best
institution at the conference based on the following
criteria, namely, effective participation and useful
contributions, intellectual soundness in presentations,
consistency in decent and corporate dressing, human
relations and interactions, and discipline.
Presenting the award to the university, the Faculty Adviser
of , Mr. Chuka Nwaozuzu said by the award as overall best,
the university has qualified and won a free ticket for its
representatives to participate at the next United Nations
Model Society conference in Europe in 2008.
Also, a CU delegate representing Cuba, Miss Ebun Owolabi, a
400 level Sociology student, emerged Third Best Female
Delegate at the conference which lasted from December 4 to
9, 2007. Special commendations were received by Ambassadors
Oluwatoni Nathaniel (Switzerland), Odunayo Sodipo (UK) and
Chude Okonji (Germany).
At a welcome reception organized for the team by the
University management, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan
and other principal officers of the University appreciated
the six-man team for their quality representation of the
University at the event, especially for coming home with the
validating awards as true ambassadors.
