Activities marking the first
convocation ceremony of Covenant University kick-off on
Monday, July 4, 2006 in a three-pronged programme. These
are special University Assembly in the morning, World
Press Conference, addressed by the Chancellor, Dr David
Oyedepo in the afternoon and serenade evening that
witnessed a concert performance by Life Art Band.
At the Assembly, the Chancellor gave a charge to the
graduating students about how to prepare for life after
graduation. He admonished them to make proper use of
their youth by paying price for glorious living now
rather than paying the price later. He told the students
that much have been invested in them financially,
spiritually and intellectually by their parents,
guardians and the university in their four years sojourn
in Covenant University, adding that as the are being
released as eagles that they are expected to break forth
to do exploit in their generation.
At the well-attended World Press
Conference, covered by over 47 media houses, the
Chancellor gave a chronological rendition of achievements
of Covenant University since its inception in October
21, 2002, praising God for the amazing exploits. He
said that the past four years had been a period of
laying foundation, of charting pathways of excellence
and of pursuing same with vigour and tenacity of
purpose, adding that the University would remain
unwavered in its commitment to turning around the
education of the nation.
He excitedly declared that CU was no
longer a story but a testimony as the four years of its
existence had witnessed torrents of awards, accolades
and recognitions. Some of awards include the Best
University in the verification visit by the National
Universities Commission in August 2001, the first
University to date to resume on its permanent site, with
full scale functional infrastructure in place at
resumption, the first Private University in Nigeria to
run full courses in every ambit of Engineering, Best
Private in Nigeria 2005, Most preferred University among
the Private Universities in the country by candidates
seeking University admission, its Vice Chancellor
Prof. Aize
Obayan bagged
Best Vice Chancellor Award in Nigeria 2005, among other accolades.
The Chancellor also expressed
optimism that the pioneer graduates being released into
the global market place as first fruits of the
University would positively rewrite the story of the
Blackman everywhere in the world as they carry banners
of the University into all different locations to make
impact and influence their generation.
Also, in her earlier welcome remarks,
the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize Obayan, announced that
University’s objectives are being actualized in every
parameter. She said that the University apart
from being blessed with good and wonderful campus was also blessed with disciplined and eminent professors
who have made marks in their respective fields. She said
the graduating students haven't gone through a rigorous
developmental process were being released as eagles
to blaze trail in Africa as solution providers.
