CU Second Convocation
Kicks Off Activities marking
the second convocation ceremony of Covenant University
kick-off on Monday, July 16, 2007 in a three-pronged
programme. These are special University Assembly in the
morning, World Press Conference, addressed by the
Chancellor, Dr David Oyedepo in the afternoon and serenade
evening that witnessed Special Gospel Concept.
At the Assembly, the Chancellor gave a charge to the
graduating students on how to prepare for life after
graduation. He told them that much had been invested in them
financially, spiritually and intellectually by their
parents, guardians and the university in their four or five
years sojourn in the University, adding that as they are
being released as eagles that they are expected to use their
holistic experience as working tools to navigate through the
tide of life.
He admonished them on decisions and
choices they would be making in life. According to him,
vision is in phases and wrong decision would mar a great
vision. He also advised them to gun for continuous learning
and improvement, adding that their true placement and class
in future would be a function of hard work and quality of
their decisions.
At the well-attended World Press Conference, covered by over
30 media houses, the Chancellor in his state of University
address gave a chronological rendition of achievements of
Covenant University since its inception in October 21, 2002,
praising God for the amazing exploits. He said that the past
five years had been a period of laying foundation, of
charting pathways of excellence and of pursuing same with
vigour and tenacity of purpose, adding that the University
would remain unwavered in its commitment to turning around
the education of the nation.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Aize
Obayan, said the Convocation week was an affirmation that
the University’s path was shining brighter and brighter unto
a perfect day. She said among the graduating class this year
included the first sets of undergraduate Engineering and
Ph.D. students respectively. Prof Obayan commended the
Chancellor, Management, faculty and staff for their hard
work and mentoring efforts in making the occasion a reality.
