| Covenant University is a visionary institution birthed to
raise a new generation of leaders, -- a special breed of disciplined young men
and women, well-equipped spiritually, mentally and physically with the in-built
capacity and confidence to confront the challenges of 21st
century Africa.
According to its Chancellor and Visioner, Dr. David
Oyedepo, the greatest need of this century is leadership, particularly in this
part of the world, and that is the more reason the central mission of Covenant
University is to train a new corps of leaders to rescue the black man from his
perilous condition in the global context.
In pursuance of the above and coupled with the knowledge
that leadership is not an endowment as leaders are not born but raised, a
resource unit known as Spiritual/Leadership Section (SLS) has been
set up in CLR.
The rich stock in the Section, endowed by the
Chancellor, is a practical demonstration of his passionate commitment to the
realization of one of the founding philosophical pillars of the University as a
centre of change and a departure from the past curriculum where learning was
seen in only one perspective: acquisition of intellectual knowledge.
But the establishment of SLS in CLR has clearly
recognized the triune nature of man, as constituting a spirit, a soul and a
body; and the need to pay equal attention to these vital components. For
instance, when the spirit of a man is dead, his body is dead. Subsequently, the significance of the new SLS could be seen
as complementary to the in-house, custom-built Total Man Concept (TMC), which is
at the core of learning in Covenant University. The essence of which is to
produce well-grounded graduates through a new training paradigm that places
equal emphasis on both learning and character in the University.
SLS is made up of collections on leadership training and
spiritual growth and development. These include print (books, magazines,
newsletters, etc.) and non-print (audio CDs and cassettes, video CDs and
cassettes, etc.), for spiritual enhancement and the cultivation of leadership
skills. The section operates full multi-media services using electronic
equipment such as television sets, CD mp3 player, video player, etc. |
