Professor Josiah Olatunde Bello was born 22nd November 1950 at Iludun-Oro, in Irepodun Local government Area of Kwara State of Nigeria. He obtained his primary school leaving certificate in 1963. He proceeded to Government Secondary School (formerly Provincial Secondary school) Ilorin and obtained Division 1 in his West African School Certificate Examinations in 1968. He stayed on till 1970 to obtain his Higher School Certificate in 1970.
He graduated in 1976 in Chemical Engineering with Second Class (Upper Division). He did his Master of Chemical Engineering in the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) graduating in 1979. He came back to Nigeria to do his National Youth Service and returned to England for his Ph.D. at the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne graduating in 1983. Professor Bello is happily married with 4 children; three of them are graduates of Electrical Engineering, Land Surveys, and English, respectively.
He worked with Ahmadu Bello University rising to the post of Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering 1987 and left for greener pasture in March 1990 to the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology, Zaria as the Deputy Director (Technology), the post he held till early 2005 when he went back to Ahmadu Bello University as Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering from where he joined the services of Covenant University as Professor of Chemical Engineering in October 2005.
Professor Bello won the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers 1996 Presidential Merit Award in recognition of his excellent contributions to the promotion of the Chemical Engineering profession in Nigeria. He also won the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers 1998 presidential Merit Award for his excellent performance, and high leadership quality demonstrated in the running of the Kaduna State Chapter as the Chapter Chairman. Professor J.O. Bello is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (1994) and Fellow of the Institute of Industrialists and Corporate Administrators (1998).

Professor Bello has written a number of journal articles in National and International journals. His area of interest is separation techniques particularly distillation and extraction, application of electric fields in separation processes, unit operations, process scale-up, process economics and management, soap, oils and oilseed.
