Professor James Katende
BACKGROUND
James Katende
was born in 1954 at Kampala, Uganda. He received the
B.Eng, M.Eng, and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering,
from the University of Lagos, in 1978, 1982, and 1987,
respectively. He is currently on the faculty of the
Department of Electrical and Information Engineering,
Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria.
From 1984 to
1990 he was a lecturer in the Department of Electrical
Engineering, University of Lagos. He joined the
Electrical Engineering Department of Bayero University,
Kano as a Senior Lecturer in 1990 and was promoted to
rank of Professor in 2000. He served Bayero University
in several capacities including: Dean of Technology
(1995-1998), Head of Electrical Engineering Department
(1995-1998), Member of Senate (1995-2006), Chairman,
University Works and Maintenance Committee, etc. He is
on the editorial boards of several journals and assesses
articles for several other technical and scientific
journals. Professor Katende has supervised six PhD
theses and more than thirty Masters Degree theses in
Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. He is
external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes in several universities and polytechnics in
Nigeria. Professor Katende is a Ugandan and happily
married with four sons. He enjoys reading novels,
cycling and playing chess.
