Programme Philosophy and Objective:

Communication is vital to individual and national life. Therefore, the mass communication programme seeks to produce graduates capable of achieving self-development and who have the capacity to contribute to national growth and development through creative, innovative and professional use of the mass media.

Aims and Objectives of the Mass Communication Programme are the following:

To provide students with a balanced and broad-based training in the various fields of mass communication.
To provide sound, theoretical and practice-based education in the media-centred domains of mass communication.
To equip students with knowledge of media practice in Nigeria, Africa and the world through the study of concepts, theories and methods that provide such knowledge and
To expose students to modern developments and technology in information gathering and dissemination through the mass media, with emphasis on computer-assisted reporting and on-line journalism.

All students are required to offer a maximum of 24 units and a minimum of 15 units of courses during each semester. These will include all compulsory, elective and optional courses.
Students may be allowed to specialize in either Broadcasting and Broadcast Journalism; Film Production; Print/Journalism; Public Relations; Advertising; or a combination of any two of these at the senior undergraduate level.
