DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Human Resource Development offers three (3) different programmes namely:
(i) B. Sc Psychology (4 yrs)
(ii) B.A. Counselling (4 yrs)
(iii) B.A. Philosophy (4 yrs)

PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the psychology programme in the Department of Human Resource Development is embedded within the overall foundational ethics of Covenant University with its main focus on the development of the Total Man. The main thrust of the programmes is the provision of broad based curricular that will equip the students with balanced knowledge and deep understanding of human development issues and challenges in the context of psychological theories and diverse counselling orientations.

The programmes are aimed at providing realistic curricular that will equip students with the relevant training, knowledge base and resources that are transferable and translatable to dealing with the real issues of human existence and living as well as meeting the needs of the real world.

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Department are to:
1. Provide a sound knowledge of concepts theories and issues in psychology and counselling ;
2. Provide knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of social, personal and psychological activities and issues at national and international levels.;
3. Contribute through research to theoretical development in psychology and counselling and provide practical solutions to the challenges of human existence, living and governance;.
4. Train and produce versatile graduates in psychology and counselling who are capable of occupying leadership and specialist positions in all sphere of the Nigerian society as well as meet the challenges of self employment.
